- The widow Albert — self-styled 'wife of Jupiter' — was condemned to one year's imprisonment for convincing a cobbler, an old-clothes dealer, and a liquor-seller to fund her underground Palais-Royal society that waged war on demons, extracting 200 meals and cash from each victim.
- A cuckolded husband in La Ville-au-Bois feigned a journey, returned silently with his father-in-law, caught his wife and her lover in bed, then stabbed the lover four times; the man died the next day.
- Jean Vatout's sixth volume of Résidences royales, just published by Firmin Didot, chronicles the Château d'Amboise from Julius Caesar through Fouquet and Lauzun, imprisoned there by Louis XIV.
- Baron Walckenaer's Mémoires touchant la vie et les écrits de Madame de Sévigné sold out its first edition so rapidly that Firmin Didot frères has rushed out a new printing of the exhausted portions.
- Mathematician Jean-Victor Poncelet is to open his course in physical and experimental mechanics at the Sorbonne on Monday 24 November at eleven o'clock.
