- France's Chamber of Deputies adopted the Anglo-French slave-trade convention credit by 243 votes to 1, with Foreign Minister Guizot declaring France had recovered full independence of its flag.
- In London, MP William Hutt argued before a near-empty House of Commons — only 29 members present — that Britain's anti-slave-trade cruisers had failed utterly, with 35,000 slaves still imported annually into Brazil and Cuba.
- A Spanish moderate faction meeting of 31 deputies in Madrid rejected both the Carlist pretender's son and the Count of Trapani as candidates for Queen Isabella II's hand, calling any marriage decision premature.
